Bike to Work Day - May 17, 2001
The CRBC was pleased to host one of its first 'events' on May 17, 2001. The organization sponsored a 'Bike to Work' day, which proved to be a terrific success, thanks to extensive planning by a number of members.

Sleepy-eyed members set up shop at 6 a.m., which was a good thing because we received our first customer (en route to Bellefonte!) at 6:30! The booth, containing juice, jet-fuel coffee provided by the Barsoms, bagels and muffins provided by Panera, and various pamphlets on cycling, was staffed throughout the day by CRBC volunteers. CRBC Bike to Work Booth At 9:30, a critical mass of riders escorted the President of the Pennsylvania State University, Graham Spanier, on a pleasant ride through campus, ending at the booth at the main campus gate. We were very pleased to have his participation in the event and, rumor has it, he had a great time too. CRBC Bike to Work with the PSU President The highlight of the day, however, was the steady stream of visitors, cyclists and non-cyclists alike, who dropped by to chat, inquire about joining the coalition, or just have a bite to eat. CRBC Bike to Work You burn a lot of calories there in back! CATA was also on hand, with a booth of their own, distributing information on mass transit in the area and demonstrating their new bike racks, which are located on the front bumpers of their buses. Visitors were encouraged to sign in and register for a drawing for gift certificates from Eddie's Bicyles and Webster's Cafe. And hey, it didn't rain. Until the very end that is. See you next year!
