Brush Valley Detour

PennDOT will be resurfacing a bridge on a popular cycling route on Friday June 10th (rain date is Tuesday June 14). The bridge is just West down the hill from Rimmey Rd and those of you who frequently ride on Brush Valley Rd will recognize it. The detour we’ve suggested below does follow RT 45. If you aren’t comfortable with the traffic on 45, your best bet is to avoid the area on the 10th. The PennDOT press release follows below.

BRIDGE REPAIRS WILL RQUIRE ONE-DAY CLOSURE IN POTTER TOWNSHIP

6/1/2016

Centre County

Bridge Repairs Will Require One-Day Closure in Potter Township Work will take place near Linden Hall on Upper Brush Valley Road

State College, PA – A crew from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation

(PennDOT) will be working to pave the deck of a small Centre County bridge on Friday, June 10.  The bridge is located on Route 2006 (Upper Brush Valley

Road), about one and a half miles east of the village of Linden Hall. Repairing the deck will help PennDOT keep the bridge in useful service until a full replacement can be done. The 16-foot bridge spans Hayes Run on Upper Brush Valley Road and dates from 1938. It carries average daily traffic of almost 600 vehicles.

During the June 10 work, the section of Route 2006 near the bridge will be closed and an official detour will be in effect. Drivers will make use of Route 2006, Route 45, and Route 144 to get around the closure.

All work is weather dependent, with the rain date set for Tuesday, June 14.

All work will be performed by a bridge crew from PennDOT Centre County Maintenance.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in all work zones, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.

Bike Safety Concerns

  • We’re grateful to the Borough, Ferguson Twp and PennDOT who are using their variable message boards in various locations this month with the message: “Yield: Give 4’ when passing cyclists”.
  • There have been several recent reports of pedestrians and bicyclists involved in near miss encounters with cars at intersections. Anna suggested approaching municipalities about raising awareness of this issue.
