Light Up The Night – Bike Light Giveaway Event
October 26 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Interested in helping out with CentreBike’s second Light Up the Night event this year?
On Thursday, October 26th, in response to safety concerns for commuter bicyclists who have been observed riding at dusk and after dark without a light, CentreBike is partnering with State College Borough Police and Penn State Campus Police to distribute bicycle lights to non-illuminated commuter cyclists – a white light for the front and a red light for the rear.
Volunteers will be grouped and assigned to a specific location to distribute bicycle lights and provide information on safe riding habits to cyclists. The PA Department of Transportation requires all bicyclists riding between dusk and dawn have a light visible from at least 500 feet to the front, a red reflector facing to the rear and an amber reflector on each side. While volunteers may not be able to ensure that every single bicyclist they interact with complies with the law, they can try to make their commute a little safer.
The lights were purchased by CentreBike and will be provided to cyclists free of charge. This event supports one of CentreBike’s goals to provide public events that educate cyclists about safe commuter practices.
