CentreBike General Membership Meeting Minutes

    • The meting was called to order at 5:31PM
  • Treasurer’s Report
    • 2 new memberships since December
    • Account Balance: $8,132.46
    • IRS 990-N Filed (Non-Profit Status)

  • 2018 Events/Projects
    • Action Subcommittee was formed in late 2017, members of this subcommittee will work to make CB more active in the community and will assist the membership at large in developing programs and events.
  • Actions Completed since November 2017
    • Centre County United Way Festival of Trees
      • CB Members decorated a tree with ornaments that highlighted Bike Friendly Businesses and had bike-related sayings. The tree was donated to a family in need once the festival ended. Some CB members were also featured in this news piece on bike safety!
  • Actionable Items
    • CB would like to host a First Friday event involving painting a bike rack. This would appeal to families.
    • Park(ing) Day is an international event where municipalities turn street parking spaces into mini parks. CentreBike is interested in participating this year.
    • PSU Professor Melissa Bopp will coordinate Exercise is Medicine on campus again. CB is interested in participating.
    • Develop a Bike Map of Centre Region: use Grad Student’s map as a basis (easy to read and aesthetically pleasing). CB will contact community organizations and businesses for sponsorship.
    • Bike Counts: Action Committee will analyze PSU’s data ASAP, which might be a while.
  • General Project Outlook for 2018
    • Mother’s Day Ride– Slab Cabin Run Park to Millbrook Marsh
    • Bike-In Movie Night w/ same concept
    • Partner w/ LGBTQA Resource Center PSU for Pride Ride: Needs to be voted on (Just needs time and effort) motioned to accept offer and move to GED, seconded. -> moved. Maybe combine w/ Light Up the Night too.
    • Tanya & Marty from the State College Cycling Club would like to increase unity within the cycling community by increasing attendance of bike store owners/liaisons at meetings, provide opportunities for people to be more involved in cycling, and increase volunteership.
      • CentreBike will continue to crosspost bike-related events occuring in the CentreRegion, but will distinguish supporting versus hosting events for liability purposes.
      • Open Discussion
        • Ride of Silence: Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 7PM (w/ rain date of May 19 at 10AM). Roy Rupert of Millheim’s “Pedal & Pints” would like to help plan this event.
        • Bike Lights were distributed to members to give to unlit cyclists. CB voted to purchase 500 pairs of lights for future events.
        • Action Committee members will begin planning May Bike Month 2018
        • Bike activist Matt Brezina (founder of West Arete) hosted a disco dance bike party in the MLK Jr. Plaza in late December.
