Bicycle Friendly America

Did you know the State College-Centre Region is recognized nationally by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicycle Friendly Community? CentreBike played a significant role in the community earning this status. Since our inception in 2000, CentreBike has been a voice for cyclists and a driving force in making bicycling safer in our community.

With CentreBike’s encouragement, Penn State earned a silver Bicycle Friendly University award and nine State College businesses have been recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Business:

  • Blue Mountain Quality Resources
  • Eddie’s Bicycles & Hockey Equipment
  • Freeze Thaw Cycles
  • KCF Technologies, Inc.
  • Millbrook Marsh Nature Center
  • State College Borough
  • The Bicycle Shop
  • Videon Central, Inc.
  • West Arete

If your company is interested in becoming a BFB, CentreBike is happy to assist – just ask! There are four application rounds a year, and the next one closes on June 15th.

The BFB program recognizes employers’ efforts to encourage a more bicycle-friendly atmosphere for employees and customers. The program honors innovative bicycle-friendly efforts, provides technical assistance and helps businesses foster a healthier workplace and become more socially and environmentally responsible. The BFB application is online at: http://www.bikeleague.org/business.

Bike Registration!

Did you know that all bicycles ridden within or through State College Borough or the Penn State campus must be registered and display a current Centre Region bike permit?

Registration is FREE!  This benefits you if your bike is ever stolen, and it’s proof of record to your insurance company if you need to file a claim.

Bike registration is quick and easy. Just complete the online form with the make, model, serial number and color of your bike at https://transportation.psu.edu/bicycle-registration

P.S. Most serial numbers are engraved under the bottom bracket (where the pedal cranks meet) – just flip your bike upside down and check. If you can’t find it, check out this link at the Bike Index, which by the way is also a good place to register your bike to improve your odds of recovering it if stolen: https://bikeindex.org/serials

CentreBike in the News…

We’ve had a few opportunities recently to get the message out about our mission:  More participation, improved safety, increased access, and stronger support for cycling as transportation and recreation in the Centre Region.

We’re proud of the work we are doing at CentreBike, and hope you are too.
