NMBA’s 2012 Spring Group Ride will be held on Saturday, May 12th, at Tussey Mountain. This year along with NMBA members and other mountain biking clubs, we have invited the road bikers to join our festivities. Post-ride we will meet at the pavillion by the pond behind the go cart track, at 4pm for a picnic. Tussey Mountain has graciously given us the rental of the pavillion at no charge!
Mountain Bike Rides
We will meet in the gravel parking lot of Tussey Mountain at noon, with rides leaving at 12:30pm. There will be three levels of rides: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Road Rides
There will be three levels of rides: Short, Intermediate and Long. We will meet at the Tussey Mountain gravel lot. Please let Joe jelsrr124@comcast.net know if you plan to attend and which route you will be riding. Picnic time will be back at the pavillion at 4pm.
Start times are as follows: Long – slow: 10 AM Long – ‘fast’: 10:45 AM Intermediate: Noon Short: 1 PM This should give everyone plenty of time to get back before 4 PM.
Short: A ‘half metric century’ of over 32 miles on gently rolling terrain! We’ll head out to Colyer Lake, then along scenic Sinking Creek into Spring Mills. From there we’ll head up toward Penns Cave, but turn and head into Centre Hall. We’ll finish it out by heading toward Boalsburg and back to the lodge.
Intermediate: A full half century, following the same path out toward Colyer Lake, then along Upper Georges Valley to Penns Creek. We’ll climb into Millheim for a brief stop, then head up through the Millheim Narrows! From there, gently rolling terrain back by Penns Cave and into Centre Hall, finishing with a loop toward Boalsburg, then back to the lodge.
Long: More than a metric! A challenging course with several good climbs! Besides heading out to Colyer Lake, through Upper Georges Valley, and along Penns Creek before heading up into Millheim for a quick stop, we’ll then scale Madisonburg mountain! A great descent into Nittany Valley, then another shorter climb over Sand Ridge to bring us the ‘back side’ of Bellefonte. Yes, Seibert Road is included! We’ll finish with some easy rollers to Shingletown before returning through Boalsburg, then back up to the lodge.
NMBA will supply hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and soda/water. Please bring a covered dish or beverage to share. If you are not an NMBA member, donations to assist in purchasing the meat items for the picnic will be appreciated.
