Election of Executive Committee Members

  • James Read

Bike Racks

Five bike racks will be purchased from Penn State Salvage for $10 each, and “Donated by CentreBike.org” signs will be riveted to the racks. The racks will be donated to West Side Stadium Grill, Toftrees, Gigi’s, Millbrook Marsh and Park Forest Elementary School to help them become more bike-friendly.

Lion Bash

On Tuesday, Aug 30th from 6:00-8:30p, CentreBike will participate in LION Bash with an information table located near the new bike repair station across from the Borough Building. The “engagement station” will be Slow Bike Races. A motion was approved to purchase 100 custom-printed “CentreBike.org” bike lights for prizes, and extra lights will be used as giveaways for future events. Mark Davison offered to provide 2 bikes for the races, and Courtney Hayden will provide 2 helmets. Volunteers are needed to help.

Fall PSU Info Table

CentreBike will have an information and bike registration table at the Allen Street Gates on Thursday, Sep 8th from 8:00-4:00. Brian Dempsey will coordinate volunteers.

Fall Biking Classes

Paul Rito & Brian Dempsey will instruct cycling skills classes this fall. Classes will be promoted in the fall Centre Region Parks & Rec Active Guide. In addition, Anna Nelson & Trish Meek will offer an introduction to biking in the Centre Region course.

Miscellaneous

Mark Davison raised concern about trail allocation and signage in state game lands (Scotia), specifically where biking is and is not allowed. It was noted that at one path entry point it states no biking or horses and at another entry it does not. The area is being monitored by the Game Commission and two people who weren’t aware it was not allowed were recently fined $200 for riding horses. Mark will look into this issue further. It was suggested that CentreBike add game land guidelines for biking to the website.

It was recommended that CentreBike’s website offer information on who to contact in each municipality about cycling issues, or possibly add a mechanism to the website to report cycling issues.

The Aug 1st meeting of the Borough Capital Improvement Project (CIP) was discussed. There were many public comments on the proposed action sports (skate/bike) facility in Orchard Park. Those opposed raised concerns about noise, lack of parking and loss of green space, although most mentioned they were in favor of a sports park, just not located in Orchard Park.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, it adjourned at 6:40 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Joan Potter, Secretary
